Gourmet Street: Dungeon Meshi meets God of Cookery

With Dungeon Meshi being in public eye again with the Netflix series, I thought it would be a good time to shoutout again about Gourmet Street, my free (tips appreciated) Street Food Fantasy zine! Big thanks to our wonderful artist and layout man @feralindiecharlie

 A New Setting! - Gourmet Street, a collection of scattered and bizarrely connected alleyways, it seems to pop up in any settlement large enough to begin thinking of itself as a city. Stacked high in wood carts, laid out on intricate rugs, swimming in a myriad of sauces, food is the name of the game on Gourmet Street.

 ONE MILLION Food Vendors and Menus! - Never eat the same thing twice! Generate from 8,000 possible unique food vendors and LITERALLY ONE MILLION possible dishes; ranging from Soft-shelled Crabman Sandwiches with Tzatziki sauce and Egg Coffee, to Myconid Zapiekanka in Pesto with a shot of Absinthe! 

 Food Factions! - From the hyper-radical (and slightly deranged) Neuvo Gastro-Alchemists, to the fanatical and militant Vinegar Knights, the food factions each come with their own wants, goals, and boons, IF you choose to serve them...

 A One-Page Adventure: ESCAPE FROM GOURMET STREET! Help a pair (or trio) of star-crossed lovers escape from Gourmet Street in a Snake-and-Ladders inspired chase! Fend off rival lovers, food cart brawls and escaped dishes as you dash through the alleys of Gourmet Street!

 And More! Monsters, magic items, and cookbooks for both Players and GMs to use and abuse!

Can be different, of course, but dragons in general have very high chances to win 😆

Just to remind you that last year the winner was a game based on Dungeons and Dragons roleplay system. 🤣

I understand why most rpgs use a 5 foot scale, its easier to count and determine square distance quickly. But you dont realize how fucking weird 5 foot scale feels until you play an rpg with a different one

Like, "a 30 foot by 30 foot room" being a basic minimum for letting players run around and stuff felt fine at first. Then I played Call of Cthulhu, which uses a yard based scale, three feet.

And it fixes so many maps

Even basic maps to decent scale in Pathfinder you end up with stuff like 5 foot wide doors, tables and chairs that look huge, Weirdly spacious rooms. You get used to the three foot scale you start realizing how much easier it is to make a normal feeling map

A thirty foot by five-sixish foot long hallway goes from 6 people people able to fit and needing to aqueeze by eachother to 20 people being able to fit squeezing by eachother, or ten people in a semi tense fit. It goes from "you need 20 squarefeet minimum room for 4 pcs to fit comfortably in a room" to "they are hiding in the walk in closet with no penalties"

One my favorite images is still the one of the person standing in a 5 foot square to show it off, because while it makes some sense in combat grids are also used out of combat. Especially if you use roll20 or foundary and like to do maps for rp, easier investigations, or just not make it obvious when a combat is happening, it feels funny.

Like imagine 4 heavily armored adventures standing in a decent sized ten by ten room, five feet apart like "pretty cramped in here, five feet apart because were not gay"

You. Yes, you. The person who just read or perhaps watched Dungeon Meshi and is toying with the idea of running a similar campaign in D&D.

Before you do that, consider checking out RELIC. It's free, much lighter in terms of rules, only 42 pages long, broadly compatible with most Old-School D&D material (including modules and bestiaries) with little to no conversion required, AND it has pretty cool built-in mechanics for cooking and eating dungeon critters.

im so in love with 'in repetition and change'. genuinely such an interesting concept with INCREDIBLE art to boot !!!!!! so i just. have to say how much i adore it

but! i was going through the irac tag and noticed that. isa's wish isnt stated anywhere! you mentioned that you know his wish, but !!! i am going crazy thinking about what he couldve wished for !!!!!

so i must ask. what did he wish for, and what was his equivalent of the act 5 finale fight? how did he learn to let go of his wish ??? im losing it

I also didn't get to answer one of the questions- I am not fully sure if Isa told everyone about the timeloops. Tho the way I imagine it is that he told them the entirety of Act 2, and after reaching the end he stopped, but I'm just not sure how that would work with the timeloop mechanically.

Maybe in order to do the friend quests he has to pretend he doesn't know everything that's gonna happen, and during that loop the game asks you to go through without skipping- After that he probably just stopped telling them and just pretended everything was fine.
